NORMAN Workshop: Roadmap for a Microplastics Database

Objectives
- Define the scope and technical requirements for a harmonised Microplastics Database within the NORMAN Database System
- Identify key components and recommendations for the associated implementation guidelines
- Review the relevant types of microplastics data and metadata to be included, covering diverse analytical platforms and data formats
- Explore opportunities for data sharing, interoperability, and intercomparison across existing monitoring programmes
- Engage the wider NORMAN community in shaping the future development and implementation of the database
Target audience
- Researchers and technical experts in microplastics monitoring and analysis
- Database developers and data managers
- Regulatory authorities and policy makers
- NORMAN members and collaborating organisations
The morning session (in person, limited to 20 participants) will focus on detailed technical discussions (scope, structure, guidelines). The afternoon session (hybrid) will open participation to a wider audience to review progress and provide input.
