3rd EUChems - Chemistry Congress
The 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress will present the latest research in the core topic areas of chemistry, feature multidisciplinary programming, and highlight chemistry?s impact on society. The scientific programme of the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress will consist of seven main symposia each subdivided into various thematically focused symposia. The ?Resources and Environment? theme will run for 4 days and will be organised in the following symposia:
  • Environmental Analytical Sciences (1.5 days, from 31 August am until 1 September am)
  • Water and Food for an Increasing Population (1.5 days, from 1 September pm until 2 September pm)
  • Energy Research (1 day, 30 August).
Deadline for abstract submission: May 5, 2010. More information at http://www.euchems-congress2010.org/

12-17 Sep 2010
Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland
TransCon2010 - International conference on Environmental transformation of organic compounds: Towards a joint perspective on the importance of transformation products as environmental contaminants
TransCon2010 will address the possible formation of stable, environmentally relevant transformation products. Sessions will cover experimental and model-based scientific methods to investigate and predict transformation processes, and to assess the environmental fate and toxicity of transformation products. The conference's aim is to develop a better scientific understanding of how much transformation products contribute to the overall chemical risk in the environment and of how to integrate this knowledge into chemical risk assessment procedures.
Abstracts: The deadline for submission of abstracts for poster and platform presentations is 16th April 2010.

12-17 Sep 2010
San Antonio, Texas
30th International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants (Dioxin 2010)
Dioxin 2010 will offer a diverse scientific programme, encompassing many of the traditional topics and also addressing new and emerging topics. Ideas and proposals for scientific sessions are currently solicited. Proposed programme topics include amongst others:
  • Analysis: analysis of existing and emerging contaminants; advances in screening and confirmatory methods;
  • Sources, Fate and Transport, Environmental Monitoring: fate and transport of brominated and fluorinated compounds
  • Human Exposure: human exposure to brominated and fluorinated compounds;
  • Toxicology/Health; Risk, Regulations, and Clean up.

23-26 Sept 2010
Dubrovnik, Croatia
NATO SfP 982590 project workshop - Characterisation of hazardous chemical contamination - from environmental chemistry and toxicology to risk assessment
The aim of the workshop is to review and present the state-of-the-art approaches for the characterisation of hazardous chemical contamination with emphasis on the effects-directed analysis (EDA) as the key tool for a comprehensive environmental risk assessment and scientifically-based and cost-effective management of water resources. Different aspects, ranging from environmental chemistry and toxicology to the effects-directed-analysis and risk assessment issues will be covered and discussed through interactive sessions with internationally renowned researchers in each discipline.

Specific topics:
  • Risk assessment of emerging chemical contaminants;
  • Analysis of contaminants in complex environmental samples - development, validation and application of advanced analytical protocols;
  • Assessing ecotoxicological hazard by a combination of biotests based on different modes of action;
  • Effects-Directed Analysis (EDA) approach for identification and prioritization of hazardous contaminants.
Submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentations will be possible from May 5 to July 16, 2010. Further information on programme and registration can be found in the 2nd flyer [588kB] and the Project web page ( http://www.irb.hr/nato-savariver/ ).

Nanosafe 2010
Following the successful outcome of the past International Conference on Safe production and use of nanomaterials Nanosafe 2008 that took place in Grenoble (France), the Organising Committee has decided that the next edition will take place in MINATEC again in November 2010.
The objectives of the conference will be to make available the major progresses and future trends in the domain of the safe production and use of nanomaterials. Proposed topics include:
  • Exposure assessment
  • Characterisation, Detection and Monitoring
  • Nanomaterials life cycle
  • Toxicology
  • Environmental impact
  • Nanoparticle release from consumer products
  • Personal protection equipment
  • Secure industrial production
  • Safety parameters evaluation
  • Standardization, Regulations.
